Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York, became a national sensation during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. His daily briefings, which were carried live on most major networks, were seen as a calm and reassuring voice during a time of crisis. Many people, particularly in the media, became what some called "Cuomosexuals," meaning they were obsessed with the governor and his leadership style.

However, as the pandemic wore on and allegations of misconduct began to surface, Cuomo's popularity began to wane. Many people began to question his handling of the pandemic, particularly in regards to nursing homes, and calls for his resignation grew louder.

The Allegations Against Cuomo

In February 2021, Lindsey Boylan, a former aide to Cuomo, published an essay on Medium in which she accused the governor of sexual harassment. Boylan claimed that Cuomo had kissed her without her consent and had made inappropriate comments about her appearance.

Since then, numerous other women have come forward with similar allegations. The New York State Assembly has opened an impeachment inquiry into the governor's conduct, and calls for his resignation have come from both Democrats and Republicans.

Jimmy Fallon's Controversial Interview with Cuomo

In May 2020, Jimmy Fallon interviewed Cuomo on his late-night talk show, The Tonight Show. During the interview, Fallon gushed over Cuomo, calling him the "national boyfriend" and saying that his daily briefings were "a light in the darkness."

Many people criticized Fallon for his fawning interview, saying that it was inappropriate given the seriousness of the pandemic and the allegations against Cuomo. The interview resurfaced in early 2021, after the allegations of sexual harassment came to light, and NBC ultimately decided to remove it from its website and YouTube channel.

The Fallout from Cuomo's Scandal

The fallout from Cuomo's scandal has been significant. His approval ratings have plummeted, and he has faced calls for his resignation from both Democrats and Republicans. Many people who were once his supporters, including some "Cuomosexuals," have turned against him.

As of August 2021, Cuomo has still not resigned, but the pressure on him to do so continues to mount. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the governor and for the state of New York.
